Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are situated in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire Veterans League Premier Tier.

The squad list this campaign features 9 ex- Premier League players, with a collective over 1,800 Premier League matches.

The high-profile squad also contains over 220 top division scores and 325 global appearances.

The squad include Papiss Cisse, who scored thirty-seven scores in over 100 appearances for his former club after signing for them for nine million pounds from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg in January 2012.

Cisse made his debut for Wythenshawe in their most recent home-field game versus defending champions Collegiate Old Boys and netted every one of the six goals in a six-two win - featuring a half-hour opening period triple.

The roster for this campaign also features former professionals such as English and Anfield forward Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley winger George Boyd, Toffees forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and top-flight title victors Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Together, the ex- top-flight footballers have won fifteen major trophies and moved for combined transfer sums of approximately £123 million.

Household Figures and Global Stars

Ireland began turning out for the side in preseason this summer through good friend and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked other former professionals, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to participate.

Former Senegalese forward Niasse, who scored 12 goals in 65 top-flight matches for the Toffees and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his first appearance against Collegiate OB - who are located in the city and use an Everton warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A friend Stephen Ireland said 'come and play, it's good fun'," commented Niasse.

"After that he informed me we were playing a side from the city and the surprise I had when I noticed them wearing Everton shirts - I thought this is wrong for me!

"If you still love the game and you know you can still do it, anywhere you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"The people who come and watch are happy and to give someone's day if they watch us competing there and to pose us questions - it's more like the pleasure of us having a place we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

Such is the bench strength at the club, he had his debut at full-back.

"It's a little unusual but then, I enjoy running and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Feeling

In addition to Cisse's 6 scores on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in three games for the side, while Boyd hit 5 on his first match and Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a triple in one match as a striker.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Tier with three wins from 3 and a goal difference of +19.

One opponent, 38, who plays on the flank for the opposition, came up against former Latics full-back Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his nine-year-old son who Heskey was.

Figueroa has played at two global tournaments for his country, in addition to featuring in over 200 top-flight matches.

"It was going round like wildfire they had these former top-flight stars," said Barrow.

"I think I was a bit awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] came on and he's has over 60 England appearances.

"We held our own for a good twenty minutes but then we had a man dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group really have not stopped talking about it - I was calling my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we are eager for the second fixture."
