Political Legacy and Community Backing
While predominantly identified as an opposition figure, Odinga served as prime minister in 2008 and also struck a political pact with Ruto last year in a career characterized by shifting alliances.
He inspired strong loyalty among followers, particularly in his ethnic group based in the country's west, many of whom contend he was denied the highest office by vote manipulation.
